(July 11th, 2007) -- The following is a recap of the past few weekends.
July 3rd:
Firecracker 50 held at West Liberty, Iowa.
The #31 Utter Motorsports team was on hand for the annual Firecracker 50. Utter placed second in his heat race giving him a 11th position starting spot for the feature event. The 25 lap event found the #31 bringing home a 4th place finish.
July 5th
The 31 team headed to the CJ Raceway, Columbus Junction, Iowa to get a few laps on the track with the C & R Pork, P & L Transportation Mastersbilt, Wegner powered #31.
Utter would use the night as a practice night gearing up for the UMP Summer nationals coming to town. Utter would finish 5th in the feature event.
July 7th:
West Liberty Raceway- West Liberty, Iowa
Jason Utter, along with the crew for the #31 C & R Pork, P & L Transportation would roll the dice on 7-7-07. Utter was hammer down in his heat race, placing him in the feature event starting 11th. Jason worked his Mastersbilt Monte- Carlo through the field into the 5th place. A blanket could have been thrown over 2nd-5th places: Matt Gilchrist, Rob Moss, Denny Eckrich and Utter. Nick Marolf leading the race had checked out. On the white flag lap Moss encounters problems coming out of turn 4, the rest of the group clears Moss to finish the night. Utter wheeled the #31 to a solid 4th place finish.
July 9th:
UMP Summer Nationals comes to Columbus Junction, Iowa.
The Utter Motorsports team was on hand at the CJ Raceway to race against some of the best in the mid-west. Utter knows this track well as he was the IMCA Stock car track champion in 2000 and 2001. Jason Utter timed in 4th quickest in his group, placing the #31 C & R Pork, P & L Transportation second row outside for the heat race. Utter running strong would tap the wall coming out of 4, but was able to wheel the car to finish 4th in his heat race. The Utter Motorsports crew would do some quick body work on the 31 machine as Jason Utter would start the UMP Summer national feature event in 11th place. The 31 machine worked the bottom groove and was moving forward thru the field when his car encountered a serious vibration in the wheel as it was packed full of mud, causing the tire to be unbalanced. Utter retired the night in 18th place.
The Utter Motorsports team will be on hand at the Davenport Speedway, Wednesday night, July 11 for the SPI shootout.
“I have had a good car, but now it is time to step it up a notch. I need a great car. My crew chief, Tom Podaril and I have a lot of different set-ups. Sometimes we’re a little off because of it but that’s the only way to move forward. The UMP Summer national at Columbus Junction was a great show. The rain on the track made it very racy; I just wish I could have finished the race. Hopefully they will be back in town next year.” Utter stated.
