Race Report: August 1st - September 2nd Written By: Utter Motorsports (September 7th , 2007) -- The Utter Motorsports team traveled to Independence, Iowa on August 1 st. The Indee Open Series would find the 31 of Jason Utter placing 2 nd in his heat race. The main event, Utter drove the 31 car into the second spot behind Chad Simpson until a caution appeared on the white flag lap. The track was locked down and on the restart Utter’s car pushed high in corner 4 allowing 3 rd, 4 th, 5 th and 6 th place cars the thought they could all have the same spot, causing a big crash. Utter powered ahead of the big crash. The 31 had no scratches on his car, but was told to go to the rear. Utter not agreeing – as he held his line (the high line) would dispute the call and would be told to call it a night.
August 2nd & 3rd-4th Jason Utter and the Utter Motorsports team invaded the great state of Wisconsin. Cedar Lake Speedway, New Richmond, Wisconsin August 2 hosted a World Dirt Race league series race. Utter would claim a 9 th place finish in the consi race. The following 2 nights the Masters event were on hand at the famous Cedar Lake Speedway. Utter dialed his car in for the following event to come up one spot short of making the 100 lap - $50,000 to win event. In retrospect the feature was such a crash fest it probably worked out for the best. Jason’s former employer (Brian Birkhofer) picked up the big check.
August 11th West Liberty, Iowa. The C& R Pork, P & L Transportation 31 Monte Carlo returned to familiar stomping ground, the West Liberty Raceway. Utter wheeled the car to a strong 6 th place finish after starting in 13 th spot.
August 18th: Utter Motorsports team returned to action at the West Liberty Raceway in West Liberty, Iowa. Jason Utter would show his driving skills and the place the 31 machine in the 3 rd spot at the end of the night.
August 25th: Jason Utter and the team were scheduled to race in 3 USRA races, but Mother Nature ruled as inches of rain fell over the area. The team would return to the West Liberty Raceway on the 25 th of August to bring home a 6 th place finish.
August 28th: Lee County Speedway, Donnellson, Iowa. The 5 th Annual American Short Track Late Model Nationals took to the 3/8 slightly banked oval track. Utter had a strong car from the drop of the green flag. The 31 picked up a second place finish in his heat race. The American Short Track Late Model Nationals would use a draw – redraw system. Jason would draw a Pepsi bottle out of the cooler to gain the #1 starting spot. The #31 C& R Pork, P & L Transportation Mastersbilt lead the race for the first 10 laps. Utter then encountered lapped traffic and the 45 of Woodward would take over the lead. Utter had company with 8 to go. Tommy Elston would work his way around Utter. The 31 car lost a fan blade off the fan with 4 to go. Hot water spraying over the hood of the car, Brain Harris managed to get by the 31. Utter would hold on to bring home a 4 th place finish. “I had a great car tonight until the fan blade came off and the car started to overheat. The engine got extremely hot; the crew will have to look the motor over and determine what damage is done. I enjoyed the race tonight; the track was in great shape. I had a lot of my friends helping out tonight and that is always a good time.” Utter stated
September 1st Deer Creek Speedway - Spring Valley, MN. The Utter Motorsports team traveled north to invade the Deer Creek Speedway. Utter timed in 3 rd fastest with his C & R Pork, P & L Transportation, Mastersbilt by Mars. One would think this would be a good thing, only to find the track dry slick in the heat races. Utter started in the 5 th spot and finished the heat in 6th place. The 31 was placed in the 1 st consolation race. Utter leading the race until #71 – McKay tagged the rear end of Utter and spun him around, placing Utter now to the rear of the field. The 31 car failed to qualify for the feature event.
September 2nd Quad City Raceway, East Moline, Il. First time ever the WDRL would race on a ¼ mile track. Utter started dead last in his heat race and finished in the 8 th place. Jason wheeled the 31 car into the feature event via a consolation race. The 31 Mastersbilt by Mars started the consolation race in the 6 th position; Utter was working his way up when he found the rubber on the track. Jason was able to get by two cars with 3 to go and bring home a second place finish placing him in the main event. The track was locked down by the feature event – Utter started the night in 20 th place, ran 30 laps and was going no where so decided to call it a night. The Utter Motorsports team will be back in action September 8 th – at a special event at Eldon Raceway.
