Jason Utter qualifies for the Topless 100!

8/24/08 -- The Utter Motorsports Team made the 9 hour trip to the Batesville Motor Speedway in Locust Grove, Arkansas for the 16th annual “Topless 100.” The weekend started with a two hour practice session Thursday night with the team making multiple changes throughout the session to the #31 C&R Farms, P & L Transportation Monte Carlo car.

Friday was a complete washout, literally, with rain showers all day which lead officials to cancel the night’s activities. Friday night’s rainout would push qualifying and heat races to Saturday night.

After a day of rest, the team set the car for qualifying and captured a 7th place starting spot in the 6th heat race. With only the top 3 transferring to the A main Jason had his work cut out for him, but by the time the checkered flag flew the #31 was in the 3rd and picked up the final transfer spot to the nights Topless 100 A main event, which was taped by the cameras of the Speed Channel.

Utter would start the night on the outside of row 9. The green flag flew and only five laps later the #31 would find a sideways Jimmy Owens in the middle of turns three and four. Utter steered the car to the highside trying to avoid the mayhem ahead of him but became sandwiched between the wall and another car. The #31 C & R Pork Farm; P & L Transportation WEGNER powered Mastersbilt by Mars car would suffer a broken spindle and end the night being towed back to the pit area. Utter would end up finishing 26th.

“The first part of the week, we made the decision to head to Arkansas to the Topless 100. I know I need to run on different tracks to get better. I was feeling pretty good when I qualified for the Topless 100, but after the 5th lap I was very disappointed. My plan was to try and run some laps and stay out of trouble, maybe I will have better luck next year.” Utter stated.
